The Boys & Girls Clubs of Elko was founded in 1999 by Al Bernarda. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Elko operated out of trailers, located at the Southside Elementary School, for the first twelve years of operation. The successes established during these early years set the foundation for a strong future.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Elko secured $4,000,000 for a new 17,200 square foot “Club” that opened its doors in August 2013 which moved our organization from serving 550 members in 2012, to over 1,500 registered members.
In September 2018 the Boys & Girls Clubs of Elko received a donation of $878,000 from the William N. Pennington Foundation to build a new Teen Center. In October 2019, this new Teen Center opened its doors to make space for 200 members age 12-18.
In September 2021 Nevada Gold Mines contributed $659,800 to partner with the Boys & Girls Club to build the new Nevada Gold Mines Early Learning Center in Elko which is attached to the Elko Boys & Girls Club. Today, the new Nevada Gold Mines Early Learning Center in Elko serves over 50 children daily, between the ages of 9 month-5 years old.
Today, the Boys & Girls Club in Elko serves over 10,000 individuals annually and is the center of before and after school-age care, youth summer camp, youth sports, pre-school, childcare, special events, and community functions.
The STEM program is the Boys & Girls Clubs of Elko's premier youth service. This innovative program focuses on science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and movie making. The STEM Center is complete with photography lab, 30 computers, recording studio, and TV Studio.
This activity center initiates creative thinking. The Discovery Center includes LEGO engineering, media booths, Claymation, greenhouse, construction, robotics, and art discovery.
The art program enhances creativity and encourages personal expression. The center hosts painting, bead work, engraving, molding, and art projects.
This area develops a positive use of leisure time, reduction of stress, and social and interpersonal skills. The adventure center includes pool table, bumper pool, Dance Dance Revolution, ping pong, foosball, shuffle board, carpet ball, climbing wall, video gaming, skeeball, dome hockey, basketball shoot, and game tables.
Homework assistance and educational advancement mentoring is available every day through our Power Hour program. Our aim is to ensure that all club members graduate from high school on time, ready for a post-secondary education and a 21st century career. The Library includes language programming, encyclopedias, book library, ACT & SAT testing, magazines, computers and media library.
These initiatives develop young people's capacity to engage in positive behaviors that nurture their own well-being, set personal goals and live successfully as self-sufficient adults. The center includes movie theatre, fitness programs, full teaching kitchen, and life skills activities.
The Teen Center is designed for youth ages 13 years and above. Teens have the option of participating in Core Service Area rotations or being in the Teen Center. The Teen Center includes a computer lab, game tables, TV lounge, and video gaming.
The Club hosts a gymnasium equipped with volleyball, interactive inflatables, PE curriculum, intramurals, and sport activities.
The Nevada Gold Mines Early Learning Center is a 50-60 capacity childcare center for infants through five years old's and is attached to the new William N. Pennington Boys & Girls Club in Spring Creek. This new centers also includes outdoor playground amenities to make this the top-rated center in Elko County.
